Speaking after the Afghanistan Premier League draft at Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Pathan said he had not been involved in bringing Amir into the franchise. He said his work as brand ambassador does not extend to drafting players. Amir was drafted as a British citizen.

Pathan said captain Rashid Khan and coach Ravi Bopara would take the key decisions, including those on the squad. He added that he would share his views if the management asked for his input.

Pathan said his focus would be on supporting emerging Afghan cricketers and helping them develop. The inaugural APL season is scheduled to begin on December 27.
