Yash recalls son's reaction to his Ravana role in Ramayana
Kannada actor Yash, who plays Ravana in Ramayana: Part 1, described his seven-year-old son's questions about the casting in a recent interview.
Speaking to television host Suma Kanakala, Yash said his son Yatharv, who has grown up hearing the epic from his grandparents, was confused about why his father was playing Ravana and not Rama. Yash said he explained acting and cinema to the boy using drawings.
The boy also asked whom he should support and whether Ravana dies or loses. Yash said that in scenes such as the abduction of Sita he would be the character audiences should not like, and told his son that the story's hero is Rama while he could root for his father in the film. He said he is only playing the role.
Ramayana: Part 1 stars Ranbir Kapoor as Rama and Sai Pallavi as Sita, with music by Hans Zimmer and AR Rahman. Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, it is the first instalment of a planned two-part saga and is set to release in cinemas on November 5.
