The Roads and Transport Authority and Al Etihad Payments, a subsidiary of the Central Bank of the UAE, have signed an agreement to launch the next generation of nol-Jaywan cards. The cards bring Dubai's nol transport payment system together with Jaywan, the UAE's national card payment scheme, so users can pay for transport alongside other digital payment services.

The pilot is set to begin this month, covering RTA public transport, taxis and public parking. Cards can be activated and managed through smartphone apps on Android and iOS. The authority said the cards could also be used on public and private transport and through online booking platforms for public transport across the UAE. Cardholders will also get access to more than 120 promotional offers and discounts.

RTA chairman and director general Mattar Al Tayer said the partnership is part of building an integrated mobility system that makes travel and payments easier. The initiative is part of the authority's wider project to upgrade the nol system using account-based ticketing technology.
