UAE urges residents to report medicine side effects through new EDE DAWA tool
The Emirates Drug Establishment has launched a smart tool that lets residents report suspected side effects of medicines, as part of a nationwide safety campaign.
The UAE has introduced EDE DAWA, a smart tool that allows residents to report suspected medicine and medical product side effects. Users can access it by scanning a QR code linked to the campaign, or submit reports through the Emirates Drug Establishment website, which has separate pages for individuals and pharmaceutical facilities.
The tool was developed with the Uppsala Monitoring Centre, the World Health Organization's collaborating centre for international drug monitoring, to simplify submissions and pass them to specialists for review. The Emirates Drug Establishment called on patients, caregivers and healthcare professionals to report suspected side effects through its official channels.
The nationwide campaign, titled "Speak Up...Stay Safe", is run with the Ministry of Health and Prevention, Emirates Health Services, Dubai Health Authority, Department of Health Abu Dhabi and Sharjah Health Authority. It forms part of the global MedSafetyWeek 2026, which runs from November 2 to 8, and aims to encourage reporting and coordinated safety oversight.
