UAE adviser urges global cooperation on water security ahead of Abu Dhabi UN conference
Anwar Gargash has called for stronger international action on water security ahead of the 2026 UN Water Conference in Abu Dhabi.
Dr Anwar Gargash, Diplomatic Adviser to the UAE President, said in a post on X that water security is one of the world's most pressing challenges to development and stability. He said collective international action is needed and that the UAE's role as host reflects its commitment to building partnerships for sustainable solutions.
The 2026 United Nations Water Conference will take place in Abu Dhabi from December 8 to 10, co-hosted by the UAE and Senegal. World leaders, policymakers, international organisations and other stakeholders are expected to attend.
The conference will focus on accelerating progress towards Sustainable Development Goal 6, which aims to ensure access to water and sanitation for all by 2030. Discussions will also cover international cooperation, mobilising investment and practical solutions to global water challenges.
